To help make the point why “Prepare” is the first leadership strategy in PLAN TO BE YOUR BEST, consider this:

Miquel de Cervantes – the author of Don Quixote – said, “To be prepared is half the victory.”

What does being prepared mean to you, especially in the context of navigating changes and challenges?

To me, it means being able, inclined, qualified, and willing — including being willing to ask questions. Smart questions.

I believe so much in asking questions that when someone asks me what I do professionally, I often say “I ask questions for a living.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-30 at 5.54.18 PMI’ve found that questions lead to understanding challenges. They lead to gaining insight. They play a central role in discerning solutions; which strategies and tactics to apply in order to achieve success. And questions play an essential role in leading others in the process of driving positive change.

In short, questions lead.

If you’re driving or navigating some form of change, here’s one way you can apply the strategy of being prepared. Ask — and answer — this question. It’s the first step to developing a plan and discerning a solution.

What is the change that requires your attention?

This is where is all begins. We need to first gain a clear answer to this question before going any further, including asking the dozens of other strategy questions that are necessary to ask when you want to PLAN TO BE YOUR BEST …As You Lead Change.
